A Strategic Approach to Growing Customer Reviews and Improving Online Reputation for a National Pest Control Brand
For any business, building a solid online reputation is crucial to gaining trust, improving SEO, and converting potential customers. This case study explores how I helped a medium-sized national pest control company significantly increase their Google reviews by devising a strategic email campaign. With just five Google reviews (three of which were fake), the client was lacking in online credibility. By utilizing their existing systems and implementing a targeted review generation strategy, I helped them grow their Google reviews to 62 and counting, ultimately improving their SEO and client conversion rates.
Client Background:
The client is a medium-sized national pest control company, providing pest management solutions across the country. Despite offering excellent service and having a strong reputation locally, they had never focused on collecting or managing their Google reviews. At the time, their online presence was minimal, with only five Google reviews, three of which were fake. The company recognized the need to enhance their online reputation to better compete in the industry and drive customer trust and conversions.
Challenges and Goals:
The challenges included:
- Low Number of Google Reviews: The company had only five Google reviews, with three being fake, which tarnished their online credibility and hindered their SEO.
- No Clear Review Strategy: The company had no formal strategy for collecting reviews or asking customers for feedback.
- SEO and Conversion Challenges: With few reviews, the company’s online presence and SEO were underdeveloped, making it difficult for them to stand out in search engine results and build trust with potential clients.
The goal was to develop a strategy that would:
- Increase the number of authentic, positive Google reviews.
- Improve the company’s SEO and local search ranking.
- Enhance customer trust and improve the conversion rate of website visitors to clients.
My Task:
As the lead strategist, I was tasked with creating and implementing a review generation system that would utilize the company’s existing email infrastructure, make the review collection process easy for customers, and significantly boost their Google review count. This required understanding the company’s existing systems and devising an email strategy that would automate the process while improving the quality of customer feedback.
Strategy and Implementation:
The strategy was designed to make it easy for customers to leave reviews while ensuring their feedback was authentic and valuable.
- Review Request Integration with Existing Systems: The pest control company already used an external CMS system to automatically send invoices to customers after service. I integrated the review request into this process by adding a simple, automated email after the invoice.
The email asked one simple question: “How did we do?” with two clear options: “Good – I’m happy” or “Could have been better”
- Positive Review Funnel: If a customer clicked “Good – I’m happy”, they were redirected to a page with a 5-star rating system and a message asking them to leave a Google review. This made it seamless for satisfied customers to share their positive experiences online, with just a few clicks.
- Negative Feedback Funnel: If the customer clicked “Could have been better”, they were directed to an email form, requesting specific feedback on what could be improved. This provided an opportunity for the company to resolve any concerns privately and address issues before they became public.
- Ongoing Automation and Follow-Up: The email system was set up to be fully automated and sent out shortly after each service visit. Regular follow-up emails were also triggered to remind clients who had not yet left feedback.
- Monitor and Analyze Feedback: I implemented a system for monitoring reviews to ensure quality and authenticity, addressing any negative feedback promptly before it escalated. This system also allowed the company to track their growth in the number of reviews over time.
Results:
The implementation of this review generation strategy led to remarkable improvements in the company’s Google review count and online presence:
- Google Reviews Increased from 5 to 62: Within a few months of implementing the new email system, the pest control company’s Google reviews skyrocketed from 5 to 62, with the number continuing to grow. This significantly improved their online credibility.
- Improved SEO Rankings: The increase in authentic, positive reviews directly boosted the company’s SEO, improving their local search visibility and rankings. The company’s Google My Business listing became more visible, leading to more organic traffic and leads.
- Increased Client Trust and Conversion Rates: The influx of positive reviews enhanced the company’s reputation, making potential customers more likely to trust them and convert. The conversion rate for website visitors to paying clients improved as a result of increased credibility and social proof.
